Music Programs for Children

Kindermusik: ABC Music & Me
ages 2-6, parent/caregiver attends with child
Children at this age enjoy moving to music, singing, exploring instruments and learning basic musical concepts while interacting with their peers.  In this class, you will enjoy  fun, guided ensemble-style opportunities for vocal exploration, movement and instrument play.  Activities introduce music vocabulary, pre-music reading, and more complex music concepts such as largo and presto or legato and staccato.  Sing, move and play with music from Africa, folk-music, American Indian music, classical, jazz - a variety of music designed to captivate and excite all ages.  Children learn to love music and develop basic skills that will help them learn a musical instrument when they are ready.
Kindermusik is designed using well-researched data on child development and early childhood music.

Performance Opportunities for Older Children and Adults
We encourage our students to take advantage of the many opportunities to share their talents.

Young Musicians Concert (Music on the Divide)

For students living on the Georgetown Divide, through age 21.  Students audition with a memorized, classical piece of about two minutes in length. Selected students perform at the annual Music on the Divide Young Musicians concert.  In recent years, the Music on the Divide has awarded partial summer scholarships to the El Dorado Sugarloaf Fine Arts Music Camp.

Winter and Spring recitals

These family events are a semi-annual celebration, featuring piano solos, duets, guitar, trumpet and french horn performances.

MTAC Certificate of Merit program

Students perform for judges and receive state recognition for their achievements in technique, sight-reading, ear-training, knowledge of music theory, and performance of baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary piano repertoire.  Students also have an opportunity to experiment with improvisation.

Small-group Recitals (kids, teens and adults)

These get-togethers include  theory games, ensemble-playing, solo performances, and allow students to meet with friends sharing a common interest in learning to play.  We hold similar sessions for guitar and brass students, and host an evening for our adult students.

Yamaha Clavinova Festival

Using the latest technoloy, students perform on the Clavinova, a digital piano, with a MIDI "back-up" band.  The music is fun and motivating, and students develop ensemble skills useful in accomapnying and playing in groups.  Students from Placer and El Dorado Counties meet at the Music Exchange in Newcastle in the Spring for this one-day festival.

MTAC Sonatina Festival

Students perform a Sonata or Sonatina at the Roseville Sherman Clay's Recital Hall.  More advanced students are judged and awarded medals.

District Evening of Music

Black Oak Mine School Distruct students perform classical music for the community at Golden Sierra High School.

Youth Expo

This annual community event in Garden Valley Park features student talent and activities available for youth living on the Divide.

KMGoodBegLogo           is based on research
Zoltan Kodaly (Hungary) - The child's voice is his most precious instrument. It is vital that a child sing often, joyfully, and unaccompanied to develop a tuneful voice.

Carl Orff (Germany) - Emphasizes the inclusion of singing, movement, instrument playing and improvisation.

Emile Jaques Dalcroze (Switzerland) -Encourages the use of movement and building musicianship through hearing, thinking, reading and feeling music emotionally which in turn enables children to approach their instruments with new understanding and skill.

Shinichi Suzuki (Japan) - Music is learned by listening first just as one's native language is learned. Developing a musical ear is paramount to all musical development.

Maria Montessori (Italy) - A child learns best through multi-sensory experiences. If a child can participate in a concept with his touch, smell, hearing and sight, the concept will be much more impacting and memorable.
